What Our Customers Are Saying
How Vocal Lessons Work- Starting with Warm Ups
You don’t stretch without warming up. Likewise, you don’t start into vocal exercises without a warm-up phase. Skipping this part can result in injury to your vocal chords. Subsequently, there are many important warm ups that should be part of any good vocal program. Some are designed to get the saliva flowing. One common warm up technique is to rub the lips together and let them glide up and down until they make a “brrrr” sound. This is done while making low notes to high and then high notes to low.
More Advanced Vocal Warm Ups
Another common warm-up technique is a 2-octave pitch glide. This is achieved by inhaling slowly on a yawn, then vocalizing gently and softly using the “ee” vowel. First, start with a moderately high chest voice and then go to low chest voice. Next, go from a head voice down to a chest voice. Then, repeat a few times in reverse (i.e. go from chest to head). Then, repeat again using other vowel sounds. Finally, if you're not yet familiar with these terms and concepts, don’t worry. That’s why we’re here. We can help you in your lessons! Here is an example of some warm up techniques: http://www.howtobecomeaprofessionalsinger.com/how-to-warm-up-your-voice-before-singing/
When you take voice lessons in Denver, CO, you’ll learn a number of exercises. First, you might start by learning ear training and pitch. Your instructor will guide you through various intervals and help you connect. Next, might be learning to sing the triads as we go up through the key, and then up and down as we go down through the key. In addition, we can then reverse, going down through the key and then back up through the key. Also, we do this with each vowel sound.
