Andrew MacIsaac Intro Video
Andrew MacIsaac was raised in Leadville, Colorado. Early on, piano lessons exposed him to classical music and some blues. The small size of Leadville, as well as his piano lessons, guaranteed him a spot in the concert band and jazz band as a percussionist. His ability to sing further increased his desirability. The natural convergence of piano lessons and jazz band was jazz piano, in which he immediately took interest. He would continue on to the Lake County High School Drum Line, for which he composed some cadences. His favorite artists are Chopin, Scott Joplin, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Radiohead.
After completing his time with piano lessons and high school/middle school bands, Andrew continued his instrumental education. He studied at the University of Colorado Denver with piano classes and private drumming lessons. In addition, he studied music theory and voice. These classes also included sight reading, improvisation, and composition. He continues to work on these subjects independently, and will feasibly continue it into a lifelong pursuit.
At My Local Music Lessons we believe all teachers should create a balance between skills building and playing songs. It’s like when a sports coach may have the team do some drills and exercises and then go use those skills when playing. We learn by warming up, increasing some skills or knowledge and then using that new skill in a real live example. It is through this connection to something familiar that makes the learning worthwhile. For most of us, that gives us more of a reason to learn it.
