Acoustic Guitar Lessons Golden CO:

Acoustic guitars have nylon strings or steel strings. First, on steel string guitars the lowest 4 strings are usually wound with some type of bronze. Also, the highest 2 strings are plain steel. Sometimes the 3rd string (G) is wound with bronze. Other times it may be plain steel. This depends on which gauge strings you buy. In addition, we refer to these guitars as “steel string” guitars. This can be confusing at first since the strings are bronze. Steel strings are good for popular styles like rock, pop, folk, country and bluegrass. An acoustic steel string guitar is portable, and can go anywhere with you. They do not require an amplifier, or any power source. Finally, there are some limitations when it comes to techniques that are meant for electric guitars.

Electric Guitar Lessons Golden CO:

Electric guitars are called steel string, but are nickel wound. Also, there is a smaller neck, and the strings sit lower to the fretboard. Subsequently, it is easier to finger the notes. They require an amplifier (amp). In addition, the cost will be higher since you have to purchase both the guitar and the amp. Electric guitars are used in rock, metal, punk, pop, funk, fusion, swing, reggae and more. You have the option of a “clean” tone or with use of “distortion” as well as other “effects” which is the gear heads heaven. There are a zillion choices of all the variety of gear and accessories. Have fun!

Choosing Your Guitar:

We have explained the types of guitars above. Which type works for you depends on which styles of music you are interested in. We recommend doing some research. First think about your favorite songs and artists. Next ask your teacher what he or she thinks. Also, you can talk to friends who play. Additionally, you should asses your budget. These factors can help you make this decision. Finally, we recommend going to a store and actually playing some guitars. Sometimes your instinct will help. You will know when a certain guitar just feels right!

Online Lessons, Apps, Videos etc-Do They Work?

Our personal opinion is, yes and no. What we mean is, that these new technological options for lessons are great as a supplement to real lessons. They are helpful to an extent but they have several short comings.

First, the online lessons require a lot of searching to find what you’re looking for. Maybe you don’t want to learn “Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix, but that is what the video you found is offering. Maybe you need specific help in a comprehensive program and these online options don’t connect the dots for you. In a nutshell, online lessons don’t create custom programs to suit your needs. Why waste time searching for items, or learning things un related to your goals?

Next, online lessons cant answer your questions. You are left still wondering about many items you needed clarity on. But the online lessons cant provide this. They contain a set amount of info.

Finally, online lessons don’t make corrections. As a teacher for over 23 years full time I can tell you, you need to be corrected and reminded to stay on the right track. One of my biggest jobs is reminding students items like how to hold their pick, or other positions because they constantly forget. This is because our brains are so focused on other items we cant possibly remember everything.
